Lycium barbarum - goji berry - is a deciduous Shrub growing to 2.5 m (8ft) by 4 m (13ft) at a medium rate. It is hardy to zone (UK) 7. It is in flower from Jun to August, and the seeds ripen from Aug to October. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and are pollinated by Bees. Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils, prefers well-drained soil and can grow in nutritionally poor soil. Suitable pH: acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil. The plant can tolerate maritime exposure.
